    An Inspiring Sensory-Friendly Golf Experience Promoting Low Vision and Blind Community Awareness

    Edinburg, TX — The Disability Chamber of Commerce RGV is thrilled to announce its 2nd Annual DCC-RGV Golf Under the Lights Tournament. This unique event welcomes media, community members, families, and individuals with disabilities to join the fun. Participants can expect an unforgettable experience playing a Par 3, 9-hole course with glow-in-the-dark golf balls to bring awareness to the low vision and blind community. The participation fee is $75 per person, and businesses can take advantage of various sponsorship packages to showcase their brand while supporting the Disability Chamber of Commerce RGV's advocacy efforts.

    Apart from the tournament, attendees can enjoy a complimentary educational sensory putting experience on the green that guarantees a fun time for the entire family. In addition, this year, the event includes an Autism sensory-friendly celebration at the clubhouse to honor Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month. This family-friendly event will showcase delicious cuisine from multiple food trucks, a DJ/ music, raffles, adaptive experiences, educational activities, resource tables, and more!

    Guests are guaranteed to have a fun-filled inclusive evening! Community participation will surely bring excitement and purpose to this wonderful event. The Disability Chamber of Commerce RGV welcomes local media representatives to join us in a remarkable celebration of unity and advocacy for equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

    DEPARTMENT OF LABOR SELECTS 10 STATES, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA FOR NATIONAL EFFORT TO EXPAND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES, OUTCOMES FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

    WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced its selection of 10 states and the District of Columbia to participate as “core states” in its National Expansion of Employment Opportunities Network initiative.

    The selection will help connect government agencies in California, Colorado, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, New York, Rhode Island and Tennessee to consulting, capacity building support and ongoing mentoring as they seek to increase Competitive Integrated Employment for individuals with disabilities in their areas.

    On Tuesday September 20th Several of our board members and co-founders spent the day in Brownsville, TX with other community organizations such as VAIL, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center - DHHC and state agency TWCVR representatives to be present during the City's proclamation reading honoring National Deaf awareness month. We would like to thank Mayor Mendez and the city council for the proclamation

    Evelyn Cano of Pharr is co-owner of Grande Produce LTD and Cano & Sons Trucking. She is the parent of a self-advocate with autism and the co-founder and president of the Disability Chamber of Commerce-RGV, which is the fourth cross-disability chamber of commerce in the nation, and works on integrative employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
